Silk Road discussion / Re: Ever get bad karma for no reason?
« on: January 23, 2013, 01:14 pm »
Be careful not to offend any of those new censorship loving mods. They are easily butthurt and love throwing around the negs
I encourage all that come across this thread to take a minute and read thru Roky's posts since he joined the forum with this username and decide for your self if the neg karma he earned by himself or was given to him fir no reason. Bare in mind I've not karma'd him at all. I'm really interested in the communities opinion of this member.

Nomad,

I just read all his posts.

While he's being offensive and aggressive I have to say I support his right to be so, and I can see the points he is making.

It's inevitable that newbies are going to post 50 bullshit spam messages to build their post count - I'm sure this must have been predicted when the rule was made?

But I think the main issue is one of free speech vs censorship. Personally I support the former at all costs, because even the tiniest suppression of free speech (vile though it might be, and justified it may seem) is the beginning of the path that leads to totalitarianism, and I think that goes against some of the libertarian ideals that Silk Road is founded upon.

I say let him rant, and if he seeks to offend jews or gentiles or gays or women or blacks or muslims or drug users(!) then let him. Personally I don't give a fuck. The offense is always a choice by the one choosing to be offended in any case...

He'll get some negative karma and people will perhaps judge him based on that (or not), but personally I would not shut him down. There's tons of aggression, trolling and insulting going on around the forums apart from this. It's easy to simply ignore if one chooses...

Speech that is intended to defraud I think should be censored on the forum, but for the rest of it it's part of the glorious (and free!) conversation we are all engaged in.

Respect,

BG
I agree that freedom of speech is part of the revolution laid out here at Silk Road.
Ok let me make this clear I've not censored him personally, never the less he was put on a freedom of speech that i dont have to read list.
As he contributes nothing to the community and is simply trying to cause issues between the new mods and the Staff Admin.

Thanks, Nomad.  What's up with someone giving me negative karma every question I ask?  I feel like if members of the forum don't want me to ask questions, then I won't.  I think that could be part of what's causing everyone to spam instead of learn.  Because then we can each go to our respective corners of the forum and be comfortable again.  Like I can see that you have asked 45 questions so far lol.  But seriously the tutorials have some stuttering dude clicking a million things and not explaining any of it.  Then they tell you at later that [in case you didn't know..click the GPA] and a bunch of other things they did on camtasia.  I thought the point of a tutorial was to go step by step on how to do something.  The text tutorials on here are equally frustrating because almost immediately what occurs is nothing like the prediction of the tutorial.  So, being completely dumb with computers, I am stuck at that step forever.  Good luck finding someone to explain what went wrong on my end.  I have even paid two people to set up PGP and they can't ever get it right.  I know it isn't really this difficult but I'm starting to wonder if God wants me to not use PGP because it really is this difficult for me.

Anyways thanks for the GPA pointer.  I'm downloading gpg4win version for the 5th time now, with that in mind...

The karma issue is blantant attempt to discourage members for no reason , it matters none so dont let that effect you at all and you're here to learn so ask question it doesnt matter if others want you to or not dont let them dictate how you act on the forum. The karma will always balance itself out. I will teach you the correct way to encrypt it it's the only thing I do today, if you have the time.  Give me a chance to help you.

Here is a link to help you step by step with GPA: http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=106694.msg730649#msg730649

Newbie discussion / Re: Vending off site - Safe?
« on: January 23, 2013, 11:41 am »
@Marlon Brando - Yeah a low income room/property for cash rental is probably the best choice (I take the point on board that the van idea is probably both unsafe and impractical)

@nomad bloodbath - Yeah I realize my title is a little confusing by "off site" I mean off my property, not off SR ;) cash for a rental property isn't a problem, my real only worry is cops will watch my entering of said anonymous rental property and keep tabs on me/get a warrant to search the property/rental space. Don't you think?

P.S. You're right, as I said I have been busted in the past but for nothing online related. I'm in no way misinformed on the best vending practices, my only real problem is keeping product at my house. What do you think?

MDank :)
My honest opinion is that if you think your past might in anyway come back to get you , then you are not only endangering yourself but innocent members of the community that do business with you. I know this is not what you want to hear but you will find that I can situations as I see them from an unbiased levelheaded place and that I'm usually spot on with all my opinions. Know if you think you can not endanger yourself and others then by all means give it a try but I'd be wrong not to tell you I think you might want to rethink this and possibly consider a partner to help keep it safe for everyone.

No, I totally understand where you're coming from and appreciate the feedback. Sadly, I do think you're right about it coming back to bite me (although this is 10 x more risky if I do it at a rental property on my own). If I managed to find a trusted partner to work with, do you think this would be safer? It means i'd have much less involvement with the product and packaging and probably just concentrate on the financial side of it to play my part. What are your thoughts?

Thanks for the help :)

MDank :)

I feel you have no choice but to become a vendor on SR the only way you will succeed is with a partner to help out, otherwise you wont be able to maintain a professional level of vending which will cause you to crash and burn in your attempt to vend on Silk Road. This isnt a get rich quick scheme it takes lots of work and responsibility to be a fulltime vendor. And even more work to maintain a professional level of transactions to be profitable.

The btc rate on SR is the hourly average of Mt gox rate so it updates every hour. Vendors either decide to have the prices set on btc rate of USD currency and the system automatically updates the price on a regular interval.
As for your forum avatar smple choose an image resize it to 65x65 and upload and it will process an image that size to give you a personal avatar.

Ok, I figured it might be worth a post because she's out of country indefinitely and she lived there for so long that she would for sure be on the list of names for the address (unlike myself).  All good though, I'll probably just use my name as originally planned.

As long as you are making personal size purchases and no bulk buys to redistribute you should have very fewissues.

He is just causing problems because that's all he knows how to do and his hate rhetoric is just an easy way out to get his attention.
He is screaming how butthurt the moderators are but he appears to be the one butthurt. I say this because he wont shut up about it.
He's not added anything of use to the forum since his 1st post...it's very likely the spamming posts in this section will be stopped very soon.
If he cant show to be a contributing member of the community than he is a destroying member.
We dont really need negative member spouting off misinformation and misdirection for private agendas here. Which is to cause thrive between the new mods and the Staff admins.

OP your title is very confusing from your post I get you want t vend on SR but you would prefer to package and prep your listings away from your home.
If that's so you  need to have enough cash to get some sort of private rental space to do that kinda private activity.
You asking if working from the back of a van tells me you arent in the right kinda place in life right now to be taking risks such as being a full time vendor.
Please correct me if i've misunderstood.

it's not wise really.
I cant advocate the use of a strangers name to do this type of activity.
if you can't gain access to a fake ID where you can get a PO box then I suggest you're best alternatives are using your real name or finding someone willing to add you to their mailing address for delivery of packages.

Maybe it's my age I don't know maybe it's because I had t use my street smart's for 10+ years as a dependant heroin user but it seem's to me that alot of people really shouldn't be here I dont meen to cause offence to anybody and appologise if I do but when I see post's about people worrying about having post come to they're mum's house it make's me wonder what the average age is,I dont care to be honest aslong as you have some common sense, and although I do think nomad came off a bit strong I totally get where your coming from,it must be a pain in the arse especially having to delete all the verwex crap I know it's getting on my nerve's, aswell as seeing thread's being made for thing's such as where to get btc and have I been ripped off because its been 10 mins since buying my btc, just log out and back in again that's the fastest way of I know to update your account found that out monday after sitting refreshing the page for 3 hours and missing last post  ::) but it's not to hard to have a looksee around the forums,it's not rocket science, like I told the guy wanting to know how to stash drug's stop over thinking it just go with what feel's safe do a little research first and your gonna be cool,i'm no expert and PGP is getting on my nerves so bad i've had to back away before my laptop goes through a window but i'll figure it out,if I can ever find out what it is i'm supposed to download and when I can actually connect to the servers I need but I use privnote for a temp stop gap not the best solution but better than nothing,if anybody has got a pdf file on PGP for dummies with a basic step by step set up i'de be gratefull and ive got a tormail you could send it to (infact let me see if KAT has anything to DL) because i'm reading the site and having to jump arund page's so much I forget what i've read before simply because there's a lot to take in,if anybody does have a pdf or is willing to sit and type up a step by step guide for a 34 year old that only got a pc 2 year's ago (but isn't stupid I can follow stuff to an extent) i'de be gratefull,i'm not to worried about my address to be honest but it's good to know this stuff even if it's not for use on SR I know I can find plenty of uses for encryption messaging, especially when the NWO take over the world and we all have to be sneaky MOFO's...lol
No offence nomad  :)
And no people i'm not arse kissing it's called respect, something you learn to do and earn to get.
Peace

no offence taken man you have the freedom to speak your mind I'd never deny you tha, you act civil and aren't being offensive at all, so no worries mate.

I suggest you google GPA(GNU Privacy Assistant) it's what I use. Download the file that works with your OS...make sure when given a pop up box to check which files to download that the GPA is checked. After you download it you should be able to find your GPA start up in the start button menu and then you need to generate your public and private keys.
You get that far and I'll help you thru the rest. PM me your public key and I'll teach you how to import public keys and add keys to your keyring , then we can encrypt files in abut a minutes time.

Feature requests / Re: Ignore user function
« on: January 23, 2013, 05:52 am »
lol you guys are clueless huh.
you have and have always had an editable ignore list in your profiles.

Profile Summary>Modify Profile>Edit Ignore list
1, 2, 3 clicks.

I really am under appreciated here. :P

X)
nomad

Cool, but I was thinking more along the lines of 'ignore this user' when you see their posts.
So you really6 just want a shortcut to the feature that already exists.
